Life is about decisions. It is like standing on a platform each time and choosing the right train.

Reminiscing this afternoon, I recall the Three Decision Theory that has been passed on to me. There are three kinds of decisions - one that does not have as big an effect on one’s life, one that affects the individual considerably and one that affects not only the individual but also their friends and family.

Now, I completely agree that the last two types of decisions must be very carefully taken, consulting people you trust, researching and reading. Sometimes, it may even be better to let somebody who knows more than yourself make that decision, but, I feel that it is incredibly important for children to take their own decisions, like those that belong in the first category.

This could vary from ordering at a restaurant, deciding the flavour of an ice cream, contributing to travel planning, adding on party ideas or even a tiny decision like choosing one chocolate bar over another.

Because once you reach a later stage in your life, it is always better to be able to make a wise decision guided by experience. It makes it easier to choose universities and subjects, for example (trust me).

It is OK to make mistakes, it is OK to have the next best thing and it is OK to be unsure … but the satisfaction that one receives is in a way liberating! And you know, sometimes, even a wrong train may take you to the right destination.
