Colourful caftans are currently in vogue this winter thanks to their comfortable, warm and attractive appeal … traditional attire making a fashion statement.

It’s not a case of making a comeback because these loose-fitted tunics and robes have never been away and they continue to be worn by several cultures around the world in different styles and forms, from dresses to coats.

Although ideal for the current chillier spell they are also hot numbers during the summer season too as they billow rather than stick to the body and can be worn as a complementary accessory to any outfit or even as a dazzling gown for a special night out.

Popular online retailer Moda Operandi, which regularly highlights the top trends, is currently shining a spotlight on its favourite caftans that include bejewelled collars, billowy sleeves, cinched jewelled waistlines and cuffs, over-the-shoulder capes in different prints and embroidered looks as well.

Here are a list of some of the popular designer names behind the latest craze.

Sandra Mansour, who was born and raised in Switzerland but has Lebanese roots, has a bridal and ready-to-wear brand. She showcases her designs twice-a-year in Paris during Paris Fashion Week and her brand is known for its luxurious designs, fabrics and finishing.

Rebecca De Ravenel has worked in fashion and interior design and has become popular for her Les Bonbons earrings. Her accessories have graced the ears of women on beaches and cities all over the world. She also has a ready to wear collection and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Esme Vie is the winner of ‘Who is on Next’ emerging designer competition and was featured in the Vogue Talents selection. She is infused with the individuality, sensuality and sophistication of the modern woman. The brand is celebrated for its intricately designed and beautifully finished collections that combine uncluttered silhouettes with eye-catching details and elegant, classic Italian craftsmanship.

Cucculelli Shaheen is a brand created by husband-and-wife duo Anthony Cucculelli and Anna Rose Shaheen. Their glamorous gowns are beautiful and the couple has reinvented shopping with 3D Body Scanning technology. They can design the embroidery to be most flattering and proportional for each client.

Other designers reimagining the caftan for the modern Moda woman include Marchesa, Christian Siriano and Elizabeth Kennedy.
