The new Jeep Compass was launched by Behbehani Brothers at a glamorous garden ceremony and dinner at The Orangery, located within the Palace Boutique Hotel in Manama.

The event, with refreshments, fine cuisine and soulful music was attended by senior company executives, Italian Ambassador Domenico Bellato, members of the media and other invited guests.

The marvellous new models were carefully lowered by cranes on to the venue’s grounds and covered up as the welcoming speeches were made by Abbas Shirazi, a member of Behbehani Brothers’ board of directors, Sam Yacoub, general manager of the dealership’s Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) brands, and Jeff Ellsworth, FCA’s Middle East region’s head of Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep and product planning.

The car saw its official launch just days after GulfWeekly took it for an exclusive early-access test drive, as highlighted in last week’s issue, and shone brightly when two of the models were unveiled to the audience. Reviewing the Jeep Compass, motoring correspondent Kristian Harrison, said: “It rides excellently both on and off the road, with responsive steering and brake inputs, and has enough chassis stiffness and suspension control to handle curves and off-roading.”
It is powered by a 2.4-litre Tigershark petrol engine with MultiAir2 technology, which delivers 173 horsepower at 6,400rpm and 237Nm torque paired to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Off-road capability comes in the form of two advanced, intelligent full-time 4x4 systems: Jeep Active Drive and the Jeep Active Drive Low, each of which can send 100 per cent of available torque to any one wheel when needed.

Both systems include the Jeep Selec-Terrain system, providing up to four modes (Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud) for the best four-wheel-drive performance on any surface in any weather conditions.

Sam Yacoub, general manager of FCA Brands, said: “The new Jeep Compass offers an unmatched combination of attributes, including legendary, best-in-class 4x4 off-road capability, contemporary and authentic Jeep design, excellent on-road driving dynamics, open-air freedom, great interior and cargo space plus a full array of advanced user-friendly connectivity and safety technologies.

“We are confident that the Compass will be a strong contender in the competitive compact SUV segment.”

The price is attractive too. The Compass comes in three variants, the Longitude at a starting price of BD7,695, the Trailhawk from BD9,995 and the Limited, starting at BD10,500.
