Aspiring artists from across the kingdom are being urged to put their vocal skills to the test in a singing competition with the aim of providing talented individuals opportunities to shine.

The Vocalist is being organised by The Butterfly Effect, a digital marketing and event’s company, and was conceptualised by Fred Edwin, founder and voice coach of Voxshop Bahrain music institute.

“The Vocalist is an amazing platform offering every individual a fair chance to hone their skills and showcase his or her talent on a national scale,” said Fred (aka Freddy). “The competition is simply designed to bring talented vocalists to the forefront in order to further inspire them.

“Being a competition, everyone is expected to sharpen their skills and battle it out in order to win their title for Season 1. This will give many a chance to be trained further and up their game in being a vocalist.”

The English singing contest is open to those residing in the kingdom and features three age categories including seven to 11, 12 to 17 and 18 and above.

According to Anita Menon, the managing director of The Butterfly Effect, between 150 and 250 people are expected to audition.

“Bahrain is brimming with musical talent,” added Anita. “We want to encourage and provide this talented bunch of people a platform to perform.”

Judging the contest on voice quality, range and performance ability will be musical theatre coach and director Yuliya Stelmashonok, Jason Swami, co-founder and partner of Eighty Eight Keys Music Academy, Erika Rawles, a vocal coach with the Associated Board for Royal School of Music and Faisal Amin, vocalist and guitarist of Bahrain’s indie rock ‘n’ roll blues band, The Relocators.

“I’ll be looking for someone who has the whole package,” explained singer and guitarist Jason. “I’m looking for someone who is charismatic on stage with a fresh, explosive voice and performance. Something we haven’t heard before.”

The winners of each category will receive BD250, a certificate from Voxshop and the runners-up will pick up gift vouchers.

The auditions will be held at Voxshop in Sanabis at the Unisono Tower from 4pm to 7pm on Friday and from 10am to 1pm on Saturday. The semifinals will take place at the same location on November 30 from 4pm to 7pm and the finals will be held on December 8 at a location to be decided.
