I never really cared much for superhero movies, only ever watching them when out with friends and looking for something to do. It’s just not my preferred genre, although I did quite enjoy the ones I watched, but never enough to follow up on the entire story.

But I get that for many, superhero movies besides acting as a source of fun entertainment, serves also as a nice escape from reality. Like the movies of Marvel that form an integral part of the lives of many. This makes the death of Stan Lee really feel like such a personal loss for fans; majority opinion is that although they normally wouldn’t pay much heed to celebrity deaths, this one really hit home.

It seems that the appeal of Stan Lee’s creations, besides their charismatic qualities of strength, bravery and wit, is how relatable they can be. Here are these individuals with heightened powers, yet when not in hero persona, they too have to grapple with the same things as everyone else leading normal everyday lives. His characters demonstrated the importance of courage, standing up in the face of adversity and to one’s bullies.

The ‘king of cameo’ has fallen, but his legacy will continue to live on in his works and in the hearts of his many fans whose lives he’s touched.
