During the three-day Bahrain Second Conference of Dermatology, Laser and Aesthetics (BDLA), doctors warned people to not use unlicensed medical devices or medications, unless approved by the National Health Regulatory Authority in Bahrain.

The scientific committee announced the recommendations for the conference organised by BDA Medical Training & Events Centre. The event brought together more than 700 leading skincare specialists, top plastic surgeons and physicians from across various countries under one roof to explore the latest technology advancements and medical treatments for different types of skin diseases.

Skincare specialists attending the event highlighted that women make up 80 percent of the patients that underwent cosmetic procedures including facial Botox and fillers and laser treatments. However, 30 percent of treatments involve men such as laser and the use of Botox.

Meanwhile, experts stressed the importance of selecting experienced doctors and national or international accredited medical centres in conducting plastic surgeries. Dermatologists also recommended using sunscreen which blocks sun’s UVB rays to decrease risks of skin cancers and prevent premature skin aging caused by the sun.

Head of conference scientific committee Dr Hussain Jumaa confirmed that skincare specialists and experts discussed a number of topics related to skin health under various sessions such as ‘laser, fractional laser, botox, skin aging, hair disorders, Psoriasis, lupus erythematous, and Vitiligo as well as non-surgery  treatments.

He also highlighted that conference discussed the importance of using modern treatment of skin diseases, in addition to the uses of biological treatment in severe cases of psoriasis associated with arthritis, the need to provide psychological and family support to Vitiligo patients and raise awareness of this disease.
