The reds, the whites, the happiness, the lights are all synonymous with celebration and pride that Bahrain National Day brings each year. But this time, it brings a lot more- the joy of winning the much coveted Gulf Cup.
The nail biting moments of the last few minutes gave way to celebration and jubilation all over Bahrain. People waving the Bahrain flag, supporters blasting the horns of their cars on packed roads were seen rejoicing and spreading delight and comradery all over the country. How I love to be a part of this historic event and feel an intrinsic part of it all.
Imagine my surprise when I went to school last Thursday and there was a bonanza waiting for us all. Our end of term assembly saw Mahdi Humaidan and Mohammed Al Rumaihi, the National Football champions, interacting with us and teaching us how to hit that perfect cross.
The dazzling display of fireworks lighting the sky, the colourful decorations of the forts around us, the traditional Bahraini dance and singing, the carnivals, live musical performances, the lit up trees along the highways, all add to the attraction- we can’t have enough of it.
As if this was not enough, we have Christmas and New Years to celebrate too. So, its lights, colours and action translating to celebrations galore. I plan to spend my winter break in Bahrain and enjoy the local flavours. I’ve planned with my friends to go to the classic car show at BIC and am also looking forward to the BDF fly past and the national guard parachute display. Also there is Jumanji to catch up on at City Centre Bahrain and I will revel in the Christmas spirit there. The cheerful atmosphere and happy faces seem to soak us up in the all-round festive spirit. But let me not get so carried away. Like all good things, this too shall end and I’ll be staring at my GCSE’s. However, my motto is to live in the moment and not let anything dampen my spirit. Let’s celebrate this moment together! Greeting everyone on the occasion of Bahrain National Day also, wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
