The sunny season is still upon us and it doesn’t look like the weather will be cooling down any time soon.

One of the difficulties most fashionistas face, living on a hot island such as Bahrain, is what to wear in order to look fabulous without breaking a sweat.

Wearing the appropriate clothing during extreme heat can make all the difference in how one feels throughout the day.

It can affect how well air circulates over skin, as well as allow heat and moisture (sweat) to evaporate. If sweat cannot evaporate, then both skin temperature and discomfort increases which can make completing any task even more challenging and bothersome.

Wearing loose clothing is the key, which is why the shirt dress is one of the hottest trending pieces this summer. It allows the wearer to look feminine, without sacrificing comfort.

It’s actually the best seller for Bahraini fashion designer, Shaikha Isa Al Khalifa’s Islanders brand. Her flouncy and billowy dresses are not only suitable for the island life, but they are also comfortably chic and colourfully trendy boasting pretty patterns and prints as well as trendy tie dye hues.

“My brand is inspired by the lifestyle that I share with my family and friends,” said the 35-year-old former Ibn Khuldoon National School student and University College of Bahrain business marketing graduate. “It makes me happy creating stuff that people like, which can help them look good as well as feel at ease while handling their daily needs.”

The Bahraini brand, called Islanders, was originally launched in April 2016 alongside three other friends, but she is now running the Instagram business solo. She creates the designs and then works with tailors in Bahrain to implement her ideas.

“I wanted to create more of the clothing that I like that are also flattering and comfortable pieces to wear,” she added.

Shaikha’s designs feature dresses for women and girls as well as prayer matts, headbands and scrunchies (hair ties). With more people being stuck at home, she is hoping to introduce sleepwear and loungewear too.
