The Bahrain National Theatre will celebrate its eighth anniversary with a virtual performance by the Perm Russian Opera and Ballet Theatre tomorrow at 8pm.
Written in 1876, Swan Lake, which tells the story of a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse, is one of the most famous ballets of the world.
When performed live in Bahrain last year, the show was a sell-out hit. This year, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) will be broadcasting the performance for 48 hours on its YouTube channel.

The 170-minute performance has drawn critical acclaim around the world, with BACA calling it, ‘one of the most unique and magnificent performances that cannot be compared to any other existent ballet performance’.
The original ballet was composed by Pyotr Illyich Tchaikovsky, and choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. It was based on Russian folk tales as well as The Stolen Veil by German folk storyteller Johann Karl August Musäus.

Staying true to the central theme of the triumph of true love that saves the soul, the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre has reimagined the story for a modern audience.
The libretto here has been written by Alexey Miroshnichenko based on the scenario by Vladimir Begichev and Vasily Geltser.
The technical choreography is based on the classical academic routine by Marius and Lev with some reimagination by Alexander Gorsky, Konstantin Sergeyev and Alexey.

Starting tomorrow at 8pm, the ballet can be watched by scanning the QR code below.
