Multi-disciplinary painter Çağla Akpınar has collaborated with orchestra conductor Yağız Oral to create expressive pieces that highlight how music and art can go together in perfect harmony.

The 27-year-old, originally from Ankara, Turkey, has been mesmerising art lovers with her murals and artistic skills at exhibitions and solo showcases ... and now her work, inspired by Yağız’s composition, has been added to music channels.

“Dissonant Harmony by Yağız can be found on all digital platforms such as Spotify and YouTube with an amazing video of my artistic process,” said Çağla, a freelance art instructor from Riffa, best known in the art community and on Instagram as Wicked Rose.

“It was a pleasure to work with him on a different type of art that I have never experienced before. My art is mainly personal and I appreciate when people find a meaning for themselves from my work. It is like creating a universal language without noticing it.”

Yağız, a 24-year-old Turkish film composer, has been in the film and music industry for about five years. He has a portfolio of works ranging from short and long productions for digital platforms to advertisements for organisations such as FIFA and the European Union. He is also the music director and conductor of a symphony orchestra of more than 60 people.

“Our vision was to describe the harmony that music and colours can achieve,” explained Çağla, a Magna Cum Laude Fine Art graduate from Bilkent University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture in Turkey.

“Music and art can work separately; but they can also create a different language together which is strong. In this narrative, however, since experimentation is essential, music and painting were targeted as a journey from beginning to end. When I listened to his music for the first time, I started to visualise the actions and dynamism of the tunes in my mind.

“It makes you feel like the music has no end; it is fluid and continuous. I felt the rhythm in my whole body; the music has its own personality. That is why I call my painting Peaceful Chaos.”

She did not want the colours to be bright and romantic, or dark and gloomy. She chose blue, red and yellow and altered those colours with the neutral tones of black, white and gray.

“The fluency of the music should not be impeded by sharp brush strokes, lines or specific geometrical shapes,” she added. “That is why; I felt I should go for a fluid painting style. And of course, the whole project is about spontaneity, therefore, the perfect medium was acrylic and plastic paint.”

The painting comprises two pieces of canvases; each of them 100x90cm and the total size of the artwork is 180x100cm.

While they both would like to someday have a combined performance of music and art on stage in either Turkey or Bahrain, Çağla would love to see the art pieces displayed and perhaps auctioned by an esteemed art space. In the meantime, she is working on her own art projects and will soon have some exciting news coming for the NFT world.

Those that wish to watch the video art, created by director Amr Atef and emerging artist Mariam Mansoor, can do so through @wickedrose.art on Instagram’s highlight reel.
