THE first act of the final season of animated series Arcane releases on Netflix on Saturday, followed by acts two and three on November 16 and 23 respectively.

Based on the successful 2009 video game League of Legends, the series follows the two iconic champion sisters Powder/Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Violet/Vi (Hailee Steinfeld), who find themselves in a rivalry due to a war between utopian city Piltover and the oppressed underbelly of Zaun.

Picking up from season one, the latest drop will showcase the aftermath of Jinx launching a stolen Hextech gemstone at the Piltover council, which adds fuel to the fire between the two sisters, as they are far from reconciling due to Jinx’s reckless decision.

“One of the biggest themes of Arcane is, you are the choices that you make, and you can never predict the consequences of those choices,” voice actor Ella said in an interview, commenting on the two sisters’ relationship, adding that fans can expect her character to experience a self-search journey.

Hailee, who brings alive Violet, highlighted her character’s growth throughout the series.

“We’ve seen her deal with so much trauma, and we see her continue to do so, not always in a graceful way, but she comes out the other side having learned a lot and having grown a lot,” she said.

The beloved series is set to wrap up this month, however, fans are assured that there is more to come from the Arcane universe in the future.

“Arcane is just the beginning of our larger storytelling journey and partnership with the wonderful animation studio that is Fortiche Production,” co-creator Christian Linke said, hinting at possible spin-offs.

“From the very beginning, since we started working on this project, we had a very specific ending in mind, which means the story of Arcane wraps up with this second season. But Arcane is just the first of many stories that we want to tell in Runeterra,” he added, referring to the game’s ‘magic earth’ universe.

Since its premiere in 2021, the series has received several accolades, including nine Annie Awards (2022) in several categories like Outstanding Achievement for Voice Acting and Character Design and Writing in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production.

The show also won Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation and Outstanding Animated Programme in the same year.
