Impressive sartorial skills were on display as the sixth batch of the Pinay Ikaw Na (‘you are Pinay’) tailoring programme presented their inaugural projects last week at Majestic Hotel, Juffair.

The event was staged by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Migrant Workers Office.

It brought together 41 seamstresses in the making, who created balloon skirts, under the guidance of trained volunteers.

The programme was part of a seven-Friday training course designed to teach tailoring basics, and also includes advanced modules. A graduation ceremony will be held next month.

Volunteer and trainer Lory Agustin, who works at a property management company, said, “I learned for free and now I want to pay it forward, devoting my time to serve the people who are willing to learn.”

The 49-year-old was part of the Pinay Ikaw Na tailoring programme’s second edition; the first training was conducted in 2022.

Currently, OFW has 55,000 documented members as per the Philippine Embassy data, a representative of the migrant support group highlighted.
