Reading about Frank Gocht’s fight with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in last week’s GulfWeekly took me back to the days when my mum was first diagnosed with this awful disease.

The Whisperer

An expat friend of the Whisperer has been busy organising his annual leave over Christmas and has suffered from a serious case of the online airline booking blues. It seemed a simple task at first, because of work commitments he would travel a week later to the UK and because of family commitments his wife would return back to Bahrain a few days later than him. Their son would travel with mum and return with dad. So far, so good? You’d be surprised. Unfortunately the KLM online booking service would have nothing to do with it. If the child is travelling with mum, he has to return with mum … unless, of course, you want to call into a booking office and pay extra for an agent to do the necessary on her computer and allow him to travel back with his father.

Making the utmost of the recent change in weather

As you have probably been able to tell from my previous articles, I am very much a sun fearing person when it comes to the intense, unforgiving weather in this country. I religiously avoid being left in direct sunlight or being heated to any degree warmer than is necessary for the enzymes in my body to function optimally. Yet, I find myself writing this outside, in the early afternoon, while lazing around in a deck chair and absorbing every ray of sun that my pasty skin can handle.
