I was ‘weirded out’ when I received a WhatsApp forward with a list of ‘important days to celebrate’, namely Friendship Day, Mother’s Day, Chocolate Day, and some 30 other ones.
Editor Stan was given a birthday surprise after his good lady wife Kathryn colluded with the Golf Hotel Bahrain Convention & Spa’s team. Expecting to go to a friend’s house he was instructed by ‘she who must be obeyed’ to drive back with her into Manama to collect a cake from the hotel. As he stepped through the doors of Fusions restaurant he was greeted by a table-for-two surrounded by a collection of family snaps. A slap up meal followed with a rendition of ‘happy birthday’ by a delightful duo … and, of course, a chocolate cake. Special thanks go to Ryan and Charbel for coming up with the playful ruse … they know how to make an old man happy.
The seventh annual Inter-Hotel Cricket tournament won the hearts of all, not just in the successful team efforts of all 26 teams that participated, but for the efforts of ‘playing for cause’ to support those in need.
