Two members of the Montana-based Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will visit the kingdom this week, in partnership with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA).

As part of Bahrain Summer Festival activities, the Missoula Theatre will organise open auditions for children interested in performing in the play Sleeping Beauty on Sunday from 10am-midday at the Cultural Hall.

MCT will also hold a number of theatre workshops, with the first being an improvisation workshop on Tuesday from 5pm-6.45pm, open to eight-to-12 year-olds.

The company’s Whitney Brennan Ward and Nick Cartusciello will direct the play and conduct the workshops in Bahrain. Whitney has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from Central Washington University. Nick is a graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts.

MCT is a non-profit organisation, deeply attuned to the important role the arts play in all communities. It aims to highlight the power of creativity, a commitment to excellence and the belief that theatre facilitates the universal desire to connect.

It is through touring that MCT impacts thousands of children annually in more than 1,100 communities around the US, Canada and more than a dozen countries overseas.

The performance of Sleeping Beauty will be held on July 28 at the Cultural Hall at 7pm. The classic tale of jealousy and true love has been made into several plays and movies and tells the tale of an evil witch who curses a princess to die on her 16th birthday. Thanks to the child’s guardian fairies, she only falls into a deep sleep that can be ended with a token of affection from her true love. When the hero prince is kidnapped and prevented from rescuing her the good fairies are the last hope to free him so that he can awaken her.
