DUBAI: Ursula Rucker, the spoken word artiste from Philadelphia, hits up the Evory Lounge at the Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates on Sunday, July 23.
Probably the first event of its kind, organisers 9714 hope it will kick-start an extended series of spoken word artists from all over the world to perform here in Dubai.
So who's Rucker, then? “Explicit Lyrics,” her bio tells us, is no parental advisory warning in her case, but a seal of quality. When it comes to frank words, she's far from bashful. The issues she addresses in her tracks, such as politics, slavery and questions of gender don't allow for any doublespeak.
