Oh! For being a woman

Gulf Weekly Oh! For being a woman

Ah the trials and tribulations of being a woman!

The lengths we’ll go to in order to improve the way we look are sometimes quite ridiculous and men can never understand why we spend so much time and money on our appearance, but if we let ourselves go they’re the first to complain we’re not making an effort to look after ourselves.
Some women get out of bed as if they’d just walked out of a salon and others don’t give a damn about the way they look. I would love to put myself in either category but unfortunately I fall under the like-to-look-presentable-but-can’t-be-bothered-to-faff-about-all-day-working-on-it category. It’s the worst category I could possibly fall into because when you have hair like a bird’s nest gone wrong, looking good when you wake up can be something of a challenge. With that said I’m a firm believer that: ‘if you can’t make it, fake it’.
One of my cheat sheets over the years has been my nails. Always soft and pliable, I’ve never been able to grow them long but I happen to believe that elegant looking nails go a long way towards making a person look presentable.
Believe me when I say a good nails salon is very hard to come by in this country and it took me over two years before I found one that didn’t make my nails look like paddles, and then just when I’d found my someone that could give me realistic looking acrylics, she ups and leaves to make a better life for herself – Oh the selfishness of it all!
After having nowhere to turn and leaving my nails in a shameful state until I couldn’t bare to look at them anymore I decided to take my life in my hands and tried out a salon I’d heard plenty about but never tested: Head 2 Toe. And that was where I met Megan – nail technician extraordinaire!
She talked me into trying nail sculpting rather than extensions and although I was a little apprehensive to start with it didn’t take me long to realise this was a woman that really loved the process of creating beautiful looking nails.
And beautiful nails she made – they are the most natural I’ve ever had as well as being thinner and stronger than ever before.
Thank you girlie girl. I’m now too busy admiring my nails to even notice what the rest of me looks like.
As for my hair? Well, I finally fulfilled a lifelong ambition of going blonde. Thanks to Chris – mistress of Head 2 Toe – my dark locks were transformed into golden rays of sunshine. All credit to Chris, she did advise me not to go the whole hog and just to put a few high-lights in but stubborn, as stubborn can be, I insisted. Needless to say she was right; blonde isn’t for me and looked faintly ridiculous with my skin tone but the actual process of going blonde was a wonder in itself and a testament to her ability that it actually worked.
With that said, this is where I have to make a confession (sorry Chris, you were right, I was wrong) I’ve since played around with it and got it to the much more Marie-Claire suitable tones of gold to copper that would never have been possible is I hadn’t gone blonde.
Head 2 Toe has got my vote!
