Gulf Weekly I’ve never seen my sister so happy!

MARRIAGE – been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, wrote the book etc… So when my sister first told me she was getting married I was filled with a mix of delight and dread.

I was seriously happy that she’d found that one special someone she wanted to spend the rest of her life with but terrified he wouldn’t turn out to be all he promised to be and might one day end up breaking her heart.
Once I’d met him I was a little reassured when I realised how much he obviously adored her but I still couldn’t help having my doubts as to whether or not he was good enough for her.
Although we don’t see or talk to each other very often, she’s one of the most amazingly lovely people I’ve ever known and if truth be told, although I’ve liked most of the men in her life I’ve never thought any of them could do her proper justice.
As maid (well matron technically, but that just sounds far too dowdy for my liking) of honour I decided I needed to be here in Portugal at least a couple of weeks ahead of time to help with all the last minute things, so I packed my bags and a travelling I went.
Now I’m sure my mother will forgive me when I say that the preparations for the big day have been a nightmare-and-a-half and I can freely admit that there has been more than a few occasions in the last couple of weeks when I’ve wanted to pull all my hair out and run down the drive screaming my head off in frustration – and that was only in the last few days so I can’t even begin to imagine what it must have been like for my parents and the happy couple over the last six months.
But finally, amid a whirlwind of a million and one 11th hour chores and pre-wedding boozy catch-ups with friends I haven’t seen in years, the big day arrived.
With much credit to my severely over-stressed parents, it was perfect. And if the party went on a full night, day and another full night longer than originally planned I’m not telling, but suffice to say I’m feeling more than a little delicate as I write!
The one thing that is for sure though is the fact that after the last few days I’m left with no doubt at all in my mind that this is a couple that has found their perfect match.
I’ve never seen my sister so happy or so loved and in love that it’s almost enough to make me queasy… So for all out there (including myself) who thought true love was just a myth, here is proof positive that it’s alive and well and only a knock on the door away – quite literally in this case.
