Gulf Weekly Show some respect

What is it that men like about wolf-whistling, catcalling or gawking at women walking down the road?

The menace of street harassment is prevalent in Bahrain and affects countless women of all nationalities and age groups.
Today, GulfWeekly launches its ‘Show Respect’ community campaign to enable women – whether they are Bahraini or expatriates – to walk on the streets of the kingdom without fear.
Police say they will act to protect the vulnerable and urge victims to come forward.
Offenders – who could face a fine or prison sentence – have been warned that they will be dealt with. A senior police spokesman said: “If victims of harassment report the incident to police with the
registration number of the car then we
will track down the offender and investigate the matter.”
Today we urge our family of readers to help protect our mothers, wives, friends and daughters and to make Bahrain a better and safer place to live.
Turn to the Back Page and create a ‘SHOW RESPECT TO WOMEN ZONE’
in your community by placing our Back Page newspaper warning sign in a shop window or prominent place.
