Fresh from their resounding success with Carmina Burana last June, French classical works are on the programme for the next Manama Singers andBahrain Concert Sinfonia concert.
The halls of the Gulf Convention Centre will resound with the beautifully expressive sounds of the Faure Requiem, which was composed in 1887.
This work Faure himself said, was ‘…dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith…’
The 70-plus classical choir will also perform Faure Cantique de Jean Racine, another deeply moving piece in the vernacular.
Gabriel Faure (1845-1924) studied organ, piano, and choral music, under among others, Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921).
The Bahrain Concert Sinfonia will treat the audience to the Symphony No 3 in C minor by Saint Saens. This work was first performed in London in 1886 and was conducted by the composer.
The Bahrain Concert Sinfonia’s performance of this well-known, uplifting work will possibly be its first performance in the Middle East and certainly in Bahrain.
The mighty organ from St Christopher’s Cathedral will be transported to the Gulf Convention Centre for this special concert will be directed by conductor Alistair Auld.
November 2 promises to be an evening of excellence in French classical music.
