President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Osamu Masuko, made his first visit to Bahrain at the weekend as part of his on-going tour in the GCC visiting various Mitsubishi dealers throughout the region.

Mr Masuko has been hailed with the dramatic recent turnaround of Mitsubishi.

A Mitsubishi veteran who has worked for the company for the past 35 years, Mr Masuko took over as Mitsubishi's president and chief operating officer in January 2005.

He is widely acknowledged as the man responsible for putting Mitsubishi back on track to profitability.

Mitsubishi Motors is now Japan's fastest-growing car exporter. After racking up huge losses over the last few years, Mr Masuko introduced a three-year Mitsubishi Motors revitalisation business plan.

Coupled with a string of new models, with the new Outlander and Lancer EX leading the way, Mitsubishi has undergone a classic product-led recovery.

Speaking at a press conference at the Zayani Motors showroom in Ma'ameer, Mr Masuko said: "The plan commenced on January 28, 2005 which continued through to 2006 and 2007.

"Our plan was to embark on changing the cultural and corporate structure of MMC and side-by-side work towards recovering trust and improving our business. This year is the last year of the plan."

He also discussed the importance and growth in the automobile sector in the GCC markets, especially in Bahrain where the demand for Mitsubishi cars has grown rapidly.

Present at the event were Khalid Rashid Al Zayani, chairman of AZI Group, Zayani Motors managing director, Nawaf Al Zayani and the ZM management team.
