Riffa Views announced that its main electrical substation, which was completed in March, will soon be energised for the power supply of the first homes that will be delivered in June to homeowners.
The 66 kv facility - costing BD 6 million - which could provide enough energy for 80 Wembley Stadiums, will supply power to the entire development through a network of underground cables.
Detailed feasibility studies were carried out over a 10-month period to identify the ideal location for the substation which has been built in accordance with the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) standards.
Riffa Views project director Steve Russell-Rayner said: "I am pleased that this extremely important milestone has been achieved. It enables us to confidently move forward to the finalisation of our first homes and their smooth handover to our homeowners."
Riffa Views chief executive officer Richard Browning added: "The completion of this component is another integral part of the jigsaw ensuring a substantial power supply to the development. We have built the substation to EWA standards to ensure that there would be no delay to the 'power on' date. The facility has a control and switchgear room which boasts the latest equipment helping engineers restore power more quickly in the event of a fault."
Work was carried out to EWA specifications and standards by the contractors. Areva provided the transformers and switchgear, and local company M&I Construction carried out all the civil work.
