Who's so mad about Madonna?

Unlucky for some, however, it seems 13 has proven the lucky charm for Madonna, as her 4 minutes single with Justin Timberlake earned her a 13th UK Number One hit on Sunday.

That puts her in fifth place for any artist or band in music history, behind Cliff Richards and Westlife, both with 14, The Beatles with 17, and Elvis Presley with 21. It also means she now holds the record for any female artist ever.

She is also the record holder for being highest-earning woman in music and it's little surprise when you hear the news that she's in talks to make more than £12.5 million for two nights singing in Dubai in November. Gasp!

It seems that she may well be popping in next door as part of her forthcoming world tour and will make an incredible £7.5 million for a one night concert.

That's an insane amount of money to pay for any one artist!

There's no doubt that she is a music icon and at 49 she's still doing an amazing job of holding off her much younger competition, but it has to be said that her success is due in much larger part to management, promotion and controversy than it is to her actual vocal skills.

At that price they are paying for a name rather than a talent? It's hard to see how organisers are going to recoup that kind of money, even if the concert venue is packed to the rafters. (I don't think I'd fancy my chances of parking anywhere within a 10 mile radius on that night!)

Add to that, it seems she's also in negotiations to stay in Dubai for another evening to sing at an unnamed businessman's private party for a further £5 million.

If she does it will be the first private party she has performed in her career but at that price tag she'd be a fool to turn it down.

And talking of fools, who in their right mind would pay that much for entertainment at a party? There's nowt so queer as folk!
