TODAY sees the opening of Bahrain's biggest hypermarket with another believed to be on the way.

Managing director MA Yusuffali will officially open the doors at the 300,000sqft Lulu Hypermarket in Riffa at 10am.

The store is the second Lulu operation in the kingdom and the company is said to be planning a third at A 'Ali.

The company already has one hypermarket at Dana Mall and Mr Yusuffali said: "The tremendous support and loyalty we got for our first project has further boosted our development plans for Bahrain which we have always considered as one of the most forward looking and promising economies in the region."

Aside from the regular supermarket the new store will feature a range of speciality sections including a cash exchange, jewellery, pharmacy and computers.

The new Lulu will also have a spacious food court where top international franchises will offer a wide range of different cuisines.

Regional director Juzer Rupawala said the new store will have a dedicated team of certified professionals responsible for all aspects of hygiene, food safety, waste disposal and quality control and he added that the group is investing in training to substantially increase Bahraini manpower within the coming months.
