The Manama Singers and Bahrain Sinfonia will once again join forces for an evening of music, wit and theatre at the Golden Tulip Playhouse.
Audiences will be taken back in time to witness the hilarious courtroom antics of Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial By Jury, a comically entertaining one act operetta. Set in the Victorian era, Edwin, (Herbert Suarez) promises Angelina (Alicia Pashby) he will marry her and then promptly changes his mind. The jilted bride sues Edwin for breach of promise and so ensues an operetta full of music, song and fully staged theatrics. Trial By Jury's first performance in 1874 was an instant success for Gilbert and Sullivan and launched them as one of the most popular duos of all time.
The Bahrain Sinfonia will perform classic orchestral magic, including works by Gershwin, Stauss and Manuel de Falla and resident conductor is Alistair Auld. Forty performances of Alegria by Cirque du Soleil will run until April 5 in their signature blue and yellow 'Grand Chapiteau' (Big Top) at Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai.
The show is sponsored by car brand Infiniti and realtor Nakheel. Cirque du Soleil's return to Dubai follows a partnership struck last year between Nakheel and Cirque du Soleil to develop a permanent show on Palm Jumeirah beginning in 2011 and expected to run over a 15-year period. The Royal Thai Restaurant at the Gulf Hotel, Adliya introduces the true flavours of Thailand with a Royal Thai Festival from March 21 to April 2. The event will also feature traditional dance forms including 'The Pursuit of Supanna Matcha' - capturing the Queen Supanna Matcha from the depth of the ocean, 'Suakalasin Lumploen' - a dance by Kalasin women persuading tourists to visit Kalasin using a can as a Thai musical instrument, 'The Dance of Benediction' - bestowing blessings and wishing good luck, a tradition from ancient times which signifies peace and happiness, 'The Weaver's Dance' - choreographed to help preserve the weaving profession from the northern part of Thailand, 'Fon Paen' - a graceful dance from North Thailand which follows the music of the jakhe (a kind of Zither), 'Rabarn Kee Pat Rahana' - a sweet and beautiful fan dance from the southern part of Thailand, 'Serng Kapo' - a dance with throw, flick and swing using a coconut shell, 'Fon Thai Phuan' - a graceful dance of the Thai Puan, people who emigrated from Republic of Laos and 'Thai Phukao Dance' that depicts the daily living of a Hill Tribe of the Kalasin Province from the northeastern region in search of food and performing their rituals.
Entertainment begins at 8pm performed by professional Thai dancers and musicians flown in from Thailand. The festival will be open daily from 12 noon to 3pm for lunch and 7pm to 11pm for dinner.
