THE right of opening the landmark 60th season of Formula One has been awarded to Bahrain International Circuit by the sport's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

The 2010 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, the seventh time that the race will be run in the kingdom, will take place from March 12-14.

The race sits atop a 19-round calendar, and will give F1 fans around the world the first taste of a new era of the world's fastest sport and witness the start of a year when new teams and new regulations showcase the championship.

Fans can begin gearing up for the race weekend by taking advantage of a 20 per cent discount on all ticket prices, race organisers in Bahrain announced.

This 'Early Bird' offer is available only until the end of November. The race weekend promises to be the grandest Bahrain has ever seen, with non-stop entertainment both on and off the track.

No fewer than 28 cars from at least 14 Formula One teams will be lining up on the grid next year - the first time such a number will be racing at Formula One's only desert track.

Two weeks prior to the Grand Prix, the Australian V8 Supercars racers will be in town for the Desert 400 - Bahrain's biggest international race outside of Formula One. On the same bill will be the GP2 Asia single seat racers - the series that is acknowledged as the stepping stone to the top flight.

Further details on ticket prices and their availability can be found on www.bahraingp.com or by calling the Bahrain International Circuit Hotline 17450000.

Fans can also visit the circuit's Welcome Centre in Sakhir or the Seef Mall outlet.
