The Lost Paradise of Dilmun theme park (LPOD) located in Sakhir has become the first leisure attraction in the Middle East to gain a world-renowned health and safety certification.
Management and staff were this week celebrating achieving the 'OHSAS 18001' standard created via a concerted effort from a number of the world's leading national standards bodies, certification bodies and specialist consultancies.
"The Lost Paradise is a haven for people to come and enjoy themselves in Bahrain and the GCC. To do this in complete safety is only ever possible if standards are set in place to the highest possible level and maintained at all times," said Paul Blunt, the water park's general manager.
"We have our own health and safety department within LPOD and a large operations department to make sure we operate at what we describe as 'five star' level.
"This prestigious achievement was the hard work of the whole organisation as the audit covered every possible area of the water park, from food and beverage through to maintenance and marketing."
Natalie Scott, health and safety manager of the Lost Paradise of Dilmun accepted the award with Mr Blunt at a ceremony at Lost Paradise from Torger Baardseth, senior vice-president of DNV business Assurance Middle East, representing the UK-based Occupational Health & Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS). He attended especially to acknowledge the attraction being the first of its kind in the leisure industry in the Middle East to achieve the award.
The certificate is valid for three years and the park will be audited every six months to ensure it continues to comply with and maintain its high standards of health and safety.
Bahrain's $50 million Lost Paradise of Dilmun opened in September 2007. Set in 77,000 square metres of desert oasis and featuring 14 slides, pools and fountains, it is the largest stand-alone water park in the Middle East.
Adam Page, the park's public relations manager, added: "The Lost Paradise is such a unique venue in Bahrain offering a whole day's entertainment to visitors in the kingdom and throughout the Gulf region.
"What is even better now is that we can officially inform people that we deliver 'beyond expectations' in health and safety matters as well.

The Lost Paradise of Dilmun will be open daily from 11am to 6pm throughout March and April, closing on Tuesdays, with the exception of school and public holidays.
