Waiting game

HUNDREDS of construction workers have been sitting idly in the sun after work ceased at the Isa Town Interchange following their company's contractual and cash-flow conflict.

They say they have not been paid since November and hope desperately to be recruited by which ever company wins the contract to finish the work.

"We've been left high and dry," said one worker who earns a pitifully small wage of under BD60 a month and have been trying to send whatever little savings he has to family back home in Bangladesh.

The workers are still receiving meals at a construction camp but are concerned that they may soon cease. They remain bewildered and worried close to state-of-the-art construction equipment which is gathering dust as frustrated commuters and parents on the dreaded school-run manoeuvre around the maze of road works.
