CAKE designer Nadia Zucchelli is cooking up a storm at parties with her custom-made creations for celebrations across the kingdom.
Briton Nadia, a qualified pastry chef who has graced the kitchens in five-star hotels in London, Munich and Salzburg, is now working from home and baking special themed cakes, cup cakes and biscuits to order.
Nadia, 42, from Saar, who also has a background in fine arts, said: "I like to create and often its like designing a three-dimensional sculpture out of flour, eggs and sugar.
"I also get real satisfaction out of making people happy even if sometimes people say the cakes are too fantastic to eat. But they soon realise that they taste as good as they look!"
Specialised cakes from Nadia's kitchen can range from Disney-style creations to personal fantasies and take on average around five hours to produce. Using all sorts of tools including fine art paint brushes and potter's needles and knives she makes two and three dimensional masterpieces.
Nadia believes when it comes to decorating a cake, the design is often more important than the size. She said: "Making different cakes keeps the excitement and adrenaline pumping. Much like an artist I am creating different things and my style is also developing as I go along. I have all sorts of little things that I can use to make the cake more interesting.
"Six-months ago I invested in an airbrush and I have bought some pottery supplies that are perfect for adding detail. There are some squeezable things that help me make tiny little spaghetti things for the hair too and lots of very fine paint brushes that help me create eyelashes on figures and fine details like that."
Nadia has previously taken part in shows at the annual Awali Craft Fair and has held stalls at the Dilmun Club and went down a storm at the recent Mother & Baby Show.
