Young artists brush up skills

Drawing inspiration from the works of well-known Bahraini artist Rashid Al Oraifi, youngsters of all ages have been creating beautiful pieces of paintings at 'Young Artist's Workshops' at MODA Mall.

The short informal sessions are being held under the guidance of professional artists who aim to educate the youngsters in special painting techniques that will enhance their artistic skills and stimulate interest in the beauty and rich cultural significance of art.

The thrice-weekly event, which is held every Monday and Saturday from 5pm to 8pm and on Thursdays from 11am to 1pm, also aims to generate an increased awareness of Bahrain's rich culture among young people.

Rashid Al Oraifi Art Exhibition, which was opened by Dr Essam Fakhro, chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on July 18, showcases inspirational and innovative art depicting Bahrain's Dilmun Era and other general paintings. The artist's special technique and unique insight into that period are highlighted in his abstract painting technique.

It is Mr Al Oraifi's first exhibition during Moda Mall's Summer Surprises in his career spanning 45 years. He has, in this period, received many accolades for his art, including the Country Medal from His Majesty King Hamad for his outstanding achievement and contribution in representing Bahrain's rich cultural heritage.

Speaking at the inauguration, a delighted Mr Al Oraifi said: "This initiative will create greater awareness of Bahrain's rich culture and stimulate interest in art among our young people."

The highlight of the 'Summer Surprises' promotion is an exciting raffle with two grand draws for spectacular prizes including return tickets for two to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, Paris or Bangkok and an ultra luxury Yamaha jet boat and two jet skis. Shoppers will receive one raffle ticket for every BD25 spent at any of MODA Mall's boutiques, while they enjoy the entertainment and escape the heat at the venue.

Shoppers can buy from exclusive brand name boutiques including Louis Vuitton, Dior, Fendi, Versace, Villa Moda and Hermes. The mall not only provides savvy and sophisticated shoppers with access to the finest designer clothing and jewellery brands, but also the tastes, sounds and sensations of the most glamorous destinations on the fashion map.

Dining choices at the mall include Patisserie Valerie, Lina's, Vivel Patisserie and Maki, in addition to Espressamente illy CafŽ at Sheraton Hotel overlooking the mall's jewellery court.

Mr Al Oraifi's inspiring exhibition is open to shoppers and visitors from 10am to 10pm until Sunday.
