Gulf Weekly Yellows firmly on top

ARSENAL Yellow’s young runners smashed their more experienced counterparts Arsenal Red in an intense tussle, which ended with a convincing 5-1 score line.

Both teams tried to play ‘the Arsenal way’ with a sting of confident passes, cracking shots and impressive dribbling.

In the opening 15-minutres the Reds dominated the play, nabbing the first goal courtesy of striker Dalal Abdulrahim. The Yellows were not impressed.

Senior coach and Arsenal Yellow’s midfielder, Deena Rahman, who has set the league alight with a string of hat-tricks, entered the arena and quickly notched a brace. Two each followed from schoolgirl strikers, Tamara Kawash and Darya Vshegorodskaya.

Shattered Red’s captain and goalkeeper, Rama Salem, said: “Our confidence sapped once their goals started coming. We tried to fight back as a team. Overall we played well and the passes were excellent but we couldn’t keep possession.”

Arsenal Yellow remain firmly the top of the Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League with 18 points, edging closer to securing the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy.

Rahman said: “The team is very excited to be at the top of the table with two games left to play. Each week the young players are growing stronger with excellent rapport, technical ability and mental attitude and so they remain unbeaten.”

The shock result of the evening came from the second fixture when rock bottom St Christopher’s Intermediate Girls’ were victorious over cup champions and second place Joga Bonito, 2-1.

Striker Rawan Al Saegh scored two for St Chris before Joga’s captain Alaa Al Durazi pulled one back.

Although St Christopher’s Intermediate remain rooted to the bottom of the league, they finally have some points to their name.

Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain director Paul Shipwright said: “St Christopher’s Intermediate Girls have truly improved. In their second game in the league they were defeated 8-0 but now they are holding on strong and displaying some excellent football. Now look at them go –they have just beat one of the table toppers!”

On Monday Arsenal Red took on the Desert Divas and Arsenal Yellow played St Christopher’s Intermediate Girls.
