WHEN I first heard about the Latin dance-mix class I was excited. I expected it to be a regular dance class where I would learn to salsa with my partner. How wonderful would it be to learn how to Merengue for my wedding, I thought? The class was even better than what I had hoped for. It wasn’t your usual dance class. It was a combination of sexy dance moves to funky and hip music that made for an excellent work-out. I broke more than a little sweat there as the very next day I felt the aches in my hips, bottom and arms.
Despite the painful after-effects of a sudden bout of exercise, since I love Reggaeton, hip hop and all Latin-styles of dance this wasn’t much of an ordeal for me.
What I loved about the class was seeing all the people of so many different nationalities coming together through music. Everyone was smiling, laughing and truly enjoying themselves. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. Now I can’t wait to hit the clubs and show off my new moves. And, if you don’t believe me about how good this class is well perhaps you will after you hear what some of my dance partners had to say.
Marsha D’Souza, 18, a student at Indian School Bahrain, from Gudaibya, said: “For a first timer this class was amazing. I got to experience something new and different. I think if I continue with it as I will surely lose weight. I can’t believe I found out how to Salsa so quickly!”
Eman Hussain, 22, a human resource executive, from Isa Town: “I am a Latin dance fanatic. I have been to six sessions already and I am really hooked. It really doesn’t feel like it’s a workout at all because it’s so much fun.”
