AROUND 300 children were put through their paces by England legend Jason Robinson in a special event to mark the start of a new partnership between HSBC and Bahrain Rugby Club.

The Rugby World Cup winner touched down in Bahrain for an inaugural junior rugby coaching clinic at the club in Janabiya.

It is the first year that HSBC’s youth, education and community rugby programme has reached Bahraini shores and the appetite for the sport was unquestionably high, organisers say.

The children were treated to the once-in-a-lifetime chance to quiz one of the icons of modern rugby and learn a few training tricks of the trade.

Robinson, HSBC rugby ambassador, said: “I am pleased to have visited a country as beautiful as Bahrain and had the chance to see so many children interested in playing rugby. It is so important that we give more young people the chance to take part and this has been a great occasion to do just that.”

Patrick Gallagher, CEO of HSBC Bahrain, was ‘delighted’ with the event’s success. The bank will return to the Bahrain Rugby Club in five months time for the inaugural HSBC Junior Rugby Festival Bahrain, the final competition in the HSBC Youth Rugby Series which brings together four junior rugby tournaments across the Middle East.
