The third annual Think Pink Gents’ Charity Golf evening at the Royal Golf Club was a huge success once again this year, raising more than BD2,000 for the good cause.

The team of Shaun Doughty, Michael Pederson, Mike Gorrie and Graeme Thompson claimed victory after achieving a stunning nett score of 27.6, beating former club captain Barry Hobday’s foursome into second place by 0.2.

Gavin Ames won the nearest the pin side contest on hole 12 while Bob Lee came nearest the pin on hole 16.

A full field of 48 experienced male golfers, all dressed in Think Pink shirts, competed in the 9-hole floodlit Texas Scramble competition on the challenging Montgomerie championship course.

“The guys had a fantastic time, they secretly love dressing in pink!” said John Wilson, the Royal Golf Club’s golf operations & events manager.

“To get a full field of 48 players on a Sunday evening is very impressive and shows how important this cause is to men as well as ladies.”

The organiser’s thanked Optima for once again providing the players’ shirts and BMI and YK Almoayyed Automotive for their sponsorship. Prizes were supplied by the club’s retail outlet, Monty’s Golf & Lifestyle.

The club has been a supporter of the Think Pink Bahrain breast cancer awareness campaign for many years, going back to its former life as plain Riffa Golf Club. The year 2012 is the eighth year it has hosted Think Pink charity golf tournaments for ladies and the fourth year of holding a gents’ tournament too.

“Think Pink Bahrain does tremendous work in the community helping to raise awareness of breast cancer and encouraging women to be proactive with regards to their health.

“With the generous support of the local business community, we hope to raise a significant amount of money at this year’s Think Pink golf events for this vitally important cause,” added Paul Crowe, the Royal Golf Club’s director of golf operations. The ladies tee-off today and promise a competitive round with a flamboyant spin.

Results: 1st Shaun Doughty, Michael Pederson, Graeme Thompson, Mike Gorrie (nett 27.6). Nearest the pins: Gavin Ames (hole 12) & Bob Lee (hole 16).

*Preparations are also underway at the Royal Golf Club for the prestigious DHL Golf Day which will take place tomorrow.

The 18-hole Texas Scramble tournament is open exclusively to DHL’s invited guests and Royal Golf Club members and will tee off with a 7.30am shotgun start. All competitors will be treated to breakfast as well as a DHL goody bag.

“This is set to be a very popular event amongst our members and there are some excellent prizes on offer to the winners courtesy of DHL,” said Crowe.
