Runners get set for marathon relay

Runners are preparing for the 2012 Bahrain Marathon Relay which will start next month from the Viva Karting Track in Sakhir.

The popular annual sporting spectacle, organised by Bahrain Round Table, helps raise thousands of dinars for local charities.

This year marks the 32nd anniversary of the race and it is being sponsored by VIVA Jusoor, Viva Bahrain’s corporate social responsibility arm.

The 48km event, on November 16, which will be run over 16 legs of approximately 3km each, will feature more than 150 teams representing the private and public sectors, hotels and schools, as well as fitness and social clubs. Each team will comprise of a 16-member squad.

Lawrence Uhl, Bahrain Marathon Relay chairman, said: “We are delighted to receive support from VIVA Bahrain for this exciting event that draws participation from thousands of people across Bahrain.”

In addition, VIVA will sponsor two teams – the VIVA Jusoor team represented by the Migrant Workers Protection Society and the VIVA Running Team.

Viva Bahrain CEO Ulaiyan Al Wetaid said: “This is our first sponsorship of the Bahrain Marathon Relay and we are pleased to support an event that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle in the community.”

The race will conclude at the main paddock area of the Bahrain International Circuit.
