Gulf Weekly Thrilling Ladies League action

The Bahrain Under-16 Nationals were held to a 2-2 draw by Venus SC in yet another thrilling encounter in what organisers and fans say has been one of the best starts to a season in the GulfWeekly-sponsored Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League.

Thursday’s epic battle for points produced a hard-fought affair. Early on the Under 16s managed to take control on the game with a stunning strike underneath the goalkeeper by Aya Bseisu.

But falling behind wasn’t enough the keep Venus’ spirits down and they replied through striker Fatima Mahmood putting the score level at 1-1 on the stroke of half time.

The second half was equally as close with both teams creating chances and opportunities to take the lead. There was definitely a goal left in the game, but nobody could call which team was going to take it until the Nationals’ Noor Anwar held her nerve in front of goal and slotted coolly home.

Venus refused to lie down and accept defeat and in the dying moments of the game, Huda Busheri scored the all-important equaliser and a share of the spoils with one point apiece.
Earlier on in the week, TFA Joga continued their good start with a tight 2-1 win over the Rugby Club’s Desert Divas.

Another great goal from Sara Aali plus one from Zahra, gave Joga all three points. Divas replied through Hanne Hassan.

In the battle of the Arsenals, the Ladies Red team were held to a draw by the young Junior Gunners, who scored an equalising goal with seconds remaining for the game to finish 5-5. Kia Hanahoe was again on the scoresheet for the JG’s, along with Deena Rahman, while the Ladies efforts came through Reema Alqassab, Dalal Abdulrahim, Lucy Hogg and a brace by Alaa Alawi.

Another fine performance came from Arsenal Ladies Yellows who came back from a very early Leah Montenegro strike to win

4 -2. Despite Leah scoring again, goals from Millie Gallagher, Alia Al Haddadad, Tamara Kawash and Aisha Al Kooheji’s first goal in the Ladies League ensured that the Yellows unbeaten start continued, with a girl-of the-game-performance from Lamees Saqqa who controlled the midfield.
