Ronan Armstrong enjoyed a week to remember a the Royal Golf Club by notching two successes.
He clinched the DHL Order of Merit Series June competition at the Royal Golf Club with a three over par 75, just enough to hold off National Team player Mohamed Al Noaimi on countback. Youngster Sam Hobday finished in third place on 76.
Tony Meakin captured first place in the men’s nett division with two under nett 70. Phil Sadler took second place with a one over par nett 73 and Ahmed Sultan finished third after also shooting nett 73.
In the ladies gross division, Deanna Ngo completed yet another win shooting gross 79. Liz Gardner was second with gross 92 while 2011 Lady Captain Debbie Lane came third with gross 100.
Evelyn Rimmer took top spot in the ladies nett division with a one under par nett 71. Hilde Kwik took second place on nett 79 while Valerie Lim made up the top three with a nett score of 81. The players with the top 24 gross scores from June’s qualifier will now move on to the Scratch Championship which will take place on June 28.
And Armstrong became the second ‘Royalists Club Champion’ after competing in the social golfing group’s second annual championship event at the club.
Armstrong’s nett score of 76 was just enough to put Paul Talwar into second place with nett 77 while Andy Love came third, also with a nett score of 77 but losing out on countback.
Dan Owen achieved the best gross score of the competition, 77, while nearest the pin side contests were won by Andy Love on holes 2 and 7, Martyn Wright on the 12th and Todd Gillespie on the 16th.
