Most people who are trying to lose weight tell me that they do really well during the day but then when they get home in the evening after a long day, their healthy eating goes out the window.
That’s probably because they’ve been staying hungry all day despite the long hours and by the end of the day the body needs to recover.
The problem is that when we’re tired and starving, we rarely go for healthy options. Most of us would reach out for a quick and easy snack, probably chips or bread or chocolate or all three!
The key to having a healthy dinner is to make sure that your day was full of healthy regular small meals.
I recommend three meals and two snacks throughout the day. The meals should be big enough to keep hunger at bay, but small enough to make you hungry again in a few hours.
By dinner time, you should have had two meals and two snacks. That leaves you with just planning a healthy dinner.
My dinner suggestions usually include a hearty soup at the end of a long day. Why? Because the body is tired and it’s much easier for it to digest and assimilate something warm, cooked well and soft.
The soup will be easy to digest and will promote a good night’s sleep. Make a different soup every day, you can even make your soups in advance and freeze them for easy access every night.
Stay away from adding cream or milk and make sure to avoid adding potatoes or any starchy grains if you need to lose a lot of weight. Also, remember to add natural vegetable or chicken stock, not the one that contains MSG, the flavour enhancer.
