The pair of Abdulla Al Ghatam and Vidhu Mittal were clearly in harmony and on form, as they emerged winners of the NHSC Greensomes competition at Awali Golf Club with 42 points.
Fine playing conditions greeted the players taking part in the event at the club, where the handicaps & competitions committee decide partners for a two-player team, only announcing the draw 30 minutes before tee-off time. The format sees players taking alternate shots, often being taken between a player’s expression of ‘sorry for making you play from here’.
Unfortunately, Club Captain Steve Brown was not available to lead proceedings at the post-golf activities as he was recuperating from an operation. Standing in for Steve was Richard Pawson.
With the competition sponsored by National Hotel Services Company and now in its 19th year, prizes with a photo-frame theme were presented by sales executive Sooraj Gopinath. In runner-up position, also with 42 points, were Derek Hutchinson and Jeffrey Barrett, followed by Dave Bailey and Nathan Sundaresan (41), Steve Newall and Kim Bhagat (40), Janet McAlpine and Rajesh Khanna, and Hamad Faris Al Qutami and Sue Scott.
On Friday, the new Pro, Steve Gerrish, resurrected children’s lessons to encourage the next set of golfing champions. Lessons are held every Friday afternoon and are free for children of club members and BD3 for other children.
