Two of the kingdom’s major golfing tournaments are rapidly approaching at Awali Golf Club (AGC).

The 26th edition of the Bahrain Ladies Open takes place on Friday and Saturday and the 51st edition of the Bahrain Open will follow on April 4-5.

This year AGC says that part of the funds raised in the events will be donated to charity and the chosen good causes are Bahrain Mobility and RIA special needs school.

The Bahrain Open is always hotly-contested between visiting and local golf professionals and Bahrain’s best local amateurs.

In the field this year will be defending champion and five-times winner Andrew Marshall from the UK. Andy is a former European Tour professional and is the man to beat. Hoping to knock him off his pedestal is local touring pro Daniel Owen.

Owen set a championship course record of 62 in last year’s first round. Also in the frame will be past champion and former AGC pro David Park, past champion and Bahrain national team member Nasser Yaqoob, past champion and Bahrain national team member Hamad Mubarak Al Afnan and former AGC pro Matt Chalmers.

“AGC is indebted to our sponsors without whose support these championships would not be possible,” said club captain Steve Brown.

Bapco is once again the main sponsor of both events. They are joined by Arabian Exhibition Management, Chevron, Pan Gulf Industrial Systems, African & Eastern, Al Haddad Motors, AXA Insurance, Coca Cola, Ace Insurance, ID Works and Holman Fenwick Willan from Dubai.

Golfers with a handicap of 12 or better are eligible to enter the Bahrain Open and ladies with a handicap of 36 or better can enter the Ladies Open.

Entry forms are available on the club website: www.awaligolfclub.com. Spectators are welcome for both events and entry is free. Refreshments are available at the club.
