Onny Martin returned to form for the first time this season with a two-shot victory in the 10th Nass Medal competition staged at Awali Golf Club (AGC).
More than 90 players took part in the event as Martin recorded a commendable nett-64 (gross-81) to be crowned the overall winner.
Diab Sagar Al Noaimi showed that he can still deliver and carded the lowest number of strokes, taking home the medal for an excellent gross-70.
Also noteworthy was the play of newly-joined member Reynaldo Alejandro. Having only recently achieved a handicap, he was playing in his first competition and carded a score that saw him in the prizes.
The prizes were presented by Yvonne Anthony, wife of Nass Contracting general manager Dave.
Results: Flight 1 - 1 Dave Spittal (nett-66/ gross-72), 2 Diab Sagar Al Noaimi (66/70), 3 Mohammed Rashid (68/73) with Daij Khalifa losing on countback. Flight 2 - 1 Salah Al Shaer (66/77), 2 Abdulla Al Ghatam (68/79), 3 Chris Gregory (68/80). Flight 3 - 1 Martyn Wharrie (68/94), 2 Alejandro Reynaldo (68/89), 3 Zayed Salem (68/88).
In addition to the main competition, a Stableford event was held for the sponsors. The overall winner was Sam Morrison with 37 points. Morrison arrived at the course with studded golf shoes, only to be told that they were not allowed (something to do with damaging the sand surface of the greens). So he played in his normal day footwear … flip-flops.
