Gulf Weekly Fitting in is never easy

Fitting in is hard and unfortunately it is more likely to occur during the formative years of one’s life. Especially high school, which makes me shudder just at the thought of it.

As today’s generation, we can be well informed on all sorts of news simply by typing in a few keywords.

A search on high school bullying and suicides brings up 64-138,000,000 searches respectively.

High school is a platform where you can develop your talents, augment your skills and practise social dynamics before stepping out into the big world we always hear our parents talking about.

Despite knowing that high school is just another phase of a life-long journey, it is easy to forget that life exists outside of it.

It should be easy to forget about exclusions until you hear about all the exciting things that happened on the weekend when you return on Sunday morning. But no, there’s Facebook, Instagram and one more to add to one’s misery, Snapchat!

In the words of Chris Martin and the famous Coldplay song: ‘Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard’.

One can often have philosophical debates about how these parties are just a means for some to find an identity of some sort.

It’s important to remember that however hard ‘fitting in’ may be, it’s not the worst thing in the world. All things, good and bad alike, must come to an end, including high school.

Until then, hang in there! It gets easier … and at least you can set aside your worries during the summer holidays.
