There is plenty brewing on the coffee front in the region following the launch of a $2 million roastery ... and Bahrain is a part of UAE-based Coffee Planet's expansion plans.

In addition to its new roastery, it is also expanding its regional presence, further growing from five retail outlets and 140 petrol station outlets in the UAE in addition to manned mobile kiosks for special events. Its newest retail opening was in Oman, with further outlets planned for Bahrain, Malaysia, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and South Korea.

"Our new roaster will increase Coffee Planet's capacity to more than 160 tonnes per month of premium Arabica coffee. In 2010 we served around four million cups of coffee," said, Richard Jones, managing director, Coffee Planet.

Setting it apart from its competitors, one of Coffee Planet's defining strengths is its local roasting, which ensures each cup of its coffee is no more than two to four weeks old.

Another of Coffee Planet's trademark secrets is its highly-experienced roastmaster, Rosco Franklin. He has more than 16 years experience in sourcing beans from the best growers, roasting and creating different blends and flavours.
