Reggae giants UB40, featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue, are set to entertain music lovers on the island as part of the 12th season of Spring of Culture.
The chart-topping British artistes will be performing their global chart hits such as Can’t Help Falling in Love and I Got You Babe as well as more current numbers. The original line-up of UB40 enjoyed huge including Number One albums and multiple Top 10 gold and platinum selling albums, Grammy nominations and four Number Ones worldwide.
The act sold more than 70 million records after forming in Birmingham in 1979. The ethnic make-up of the band’s original line-up was diverse with musicians of English, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish and Yemeni descent.
Now the three founding members of the band will be lighting up the stage on March 31 at Bahrain Bay from 8.30pm.
Spring of Culture kicks off on February 23 with German street theatre group The Groove Onkels. The Tap Factory dance group will perform on March 2 & 3 at 7pm at the Cultural Hall and singers Majid Al Muhandis and composer Waleed Al Shami will appear at Bahrain Bay on March 10 at 8.30pm.
Folk singer and songwriter Mo Zowayed will be on stage on March 18 at 8.30pm at Bahrain Bay followed by progressive fusion folk group Majaz. The festival will feature a variety of acts, lectures, exhibits and performances and will end on April 24.

The annual festival programme will be part of on-going celebrations marking the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities’ year long events marking the archaeological heritage of the kingdom, held under the slogan ‘Our Year of Archaeology’ in 2017.
