The Rotary Club Manama (RCM) is calling on supporters from across the kingdom to come out and cheer on the teams competing in its annual six-a-side football tournament on Friday.
The ‘Kick for a Cause’ initiative this year is being staged in support of autistic children and already 24 teams have signed up to take part in the competition that will be held at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) in Janabiya, kicking-off at 3pm.
Last year around 2,000 people attended the fundraising event which was focusing on helping children with cancer and a staggering BD30,000 raised helped buy diagnostic equipment.
Bob Thaker, the chairman of the tournament’s organising committee and the incoming president of the club, said: “The idea behind this fundraising event is to get as many companies in Bahrain to contribute by entering a team for the tournament.
The funds raised will then be spent back in the community for a worthy cause. “We hope to raise as much money as possible to help children with autism this year. We also aim to provide a pleasant day out for families where they can come and enjoy the football, entertainment and food.”
While the players take to the pitch, families can enjoy an array of entertainment. Side attractions include a bouncy castle and a band. There will also be a price raffle with tickets available on the day.
Bob added: “The Rotary Club of Manama have been organising similar events for nearly 20 years and we would like to thank all our sponsors, supporters and volunteers who help make this annual event such a success.
“I would also like to thank our Six-a-Side Committee who put in an incredible effort and time into making it possible. Also, I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all past presidents and members who have been providing unwavering support.”
The club was founded in 1965 under the motto of ‘Service above Self’. Since its inception, the RCM has been involved in numerous charitable endeavours. Among those playing for glory on the day will be teams representing banks, investment and logistics companies, schools and a law firm.
Entrance on the day is free and for further details contact 38886838 or email 6asidercm@gmail.com
