An Alice in Wonderland weekend will take place at the British Club of Bahrain on October 13 and 14 to raise funds for the Ria Institute.

October 13 will be an evening of bizarre fun, entertainment and games, with a very unusual back to front/upside down three course meal with complimentary beverages.

Guests will enter into the club’s Windsor Room through a tunnel which will end at Alice’s house. After that, they will be sent through the Queen of Heart’s Croquet Lawn into the tea room and enchanted garden where they will be met by the Mad Hatter and White Rabbit.

Following this, there will be card games, a ‘blind date’ activity based on the famous UK television show hosted by Cilla Black, a table quiz and various themes from the story happening around the room. And of course the usual raffle with wonderful prizes.

Organiser Liz Reid said: “The whole evening will be about raising as much money as we can for the Ria Institute for children and young adults with special needs. It was founded and is still run by Christine Gordon, who will in fact be performing live on the evening with her band, Frankie & Friends.

“We would like it if everyone came dressed up as their favourite character from Lewis Carroll’s world, but there is absolutely no obligation to do so. We just ask that you come along, have some fun and support us!”

On the afternoon of October 14, a family BBQ aimed at children will be held, including ice cream, soft drinks, and a showing of the Alice in Wonderland film on the outside lawn.

Tickets are on sale now and are available from the club reception. Tickets for the Thursday evening are BD18, and for the Friday BBQ are BD4 for adults, BD3 for children or BD12 for a family ticket (two adults, two children).

Al Areen Palace & Spa, in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy, will host a week-long food festival featuring Indonesian cuisine from October 14-21 at its Keizo outlet.

The menu for the festival, designed by Executive Sous Chef Janardan Das, will feature popular Indonesian dishes like Nasi Goreng, Beef Rendang, and desserts like Fried Banana with Chocolate Dip and Es Cendol (Shaved Ice with Rice Flour Dumpling).

Chilman Arisman, the Indonesian ambassador to Bahrain, said: “Indonesia is currently focused on developing Indonesian cuisine and promoting it to the international world. With the growing recognition of Indonesian cuisine in Bahrain, we are delighted to hold this event at Al Areen.”
