Ben Hogan, one of the greatest professional golfers of all time, described golf as ‘a game of misses. The guy who misses it the best is going to win’.
For golfers to venture out onto the course and expect the perfect shot, perfect conditions and good breaks every time, means they are defeated before they start.
A question I regularly ask my students is: "How bad are your missed shots? How often do they occur? How do you react to a poor shot? And, how quickly can you fix your swing on the course?"
All top players, along with their coaches are able to approach these questions reasonably and each player will have techniques and routines that will get the best score on days when things just don’t feel right.
I would recommend to all regular golfers to find a coach that they are comfortable with and work in the long term on their own personal strategies to get the most from their game.
