The Rotary Club of Manama is hosting its annual ‘Kick for a Cause’ football tournament on February 17 at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club. The event will start at 3pm.
SCOUTS representing sports scholarship consultants United Sports USA are visiting ahrain until February 10.
The UK-based consultancy works with talented young student athletes worldwide aged 15-22 to help them achieve sports scholarships in the US.

United Sports USA will be visiting Tekkers Soccer Academy and various schools in Bahrain. Since 2009, it has placed student athletes at colleges in 41 US states generating more than $18,000,000 in scholarship funding for the most talented soccer players, golfers, hockey, swimmers and track and field athletes.

The GCCNational Olympic Committees will be hosting a Bahrain Sports Day at The Sports Village in Riffa on Tuesday. The multi-sporting event, organised by the Bahrain Olympic Committee, in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Ministry, will feature more than 50 activities scheduled in an action-packed day featuring entertainment and contests for all levels and ages. More than 10 ministries, four governorates, 28 sports federations, national and expatriate sports clubs, in addition to youth centres, will participate.
The Bahrain Sport Day will feature several competitions for youngsters and adults, including track-and-field races and a cross-country race. Also included will be swimming, sailing and rafting, a handball tournament for boys and girls aged nine to 14, a table tennis event, in addition to 30km and 90km cycling races. KHK MMA will also be participating with the aim to spread awareness about mixed martial arts.
The day for MMA competitors starts at 10am with a weigh-in, followed by training sessions from KHK MMA instructors. At 1pm, MMA gyms from across Bahrain will demonstrate martial arts techniques. At 2pm, athletes will get the chance to put their skills and endurance to the test by challenging KHK MMA professional fighters. At 4pm,visitors will be treated to an MMA spectacle organised by the Bahrain Mixed Martial Arts Federation (BMMAF) where some of the best talents from MMA schools of Bahrain will showcase their skills inside the cage. Participating athletes include Nayef Fekry, 18, Yousef Mohammed, 14, Maher Khaled, 18, and Yousef Waleed, 16. Boxing legend and sporting personality Frank Bruno will be visiting Bahrain to talk about his career which included fights against Mike Tyson and the winning of his WBC Heavyweight World Champion belt. He will also talk about his out-of-the-ring struggles and the rebuilding of his career post boxing at The Diplomat Radisson BLU Hotel, Residence & Spa on Friday,February 24. “These will be truly heart-warming, funny and insightful accounts from Frank himself,” said a spokesman for promoters, Sports Speaker MENA. Bruno won the WBC title in 1995 after defeating Oliver McCall at a packed Wembley Stadium. The fighter was known for his excellent punching power: he won 40 ofhis 45 bouts and 38 by knockout. Bruno’s image was enhanced by his relationship with the BBC boxing commentator Harry Carpenter, his appearances on the early Comic Relief programmes in the 1980s and his frequent appearances thereafter on TV and on stage in pantomime. Phil Chambers, the reigning World Mind Mapping Champion, will be visiting Bahrain to explain to schoolchildren how the concept can help bring examination success. The sixtimes Mind Sports Olympiad Medalist and International Grandmaster of Mind Mapping will be staging sessions at the Downtown Rotana Hotel next month aimed at students in Years 10 to 13. The BahrainRugby Football Club will be hosting a Potjiekos Competition on March 10. Potjiekos, originally a South African term, translates to ‘small pot food’ and is prepared outdoors. Recipes include meat and vegetables. The cooking will begin at noon and the judging will start at 5pm. Prizes will be awarded to those with the best stall set up and the best tasting Potjie Pot.
