Ellissa’s island life

With Think Pink in full swing this month raising awareness for breast cancer, we decided to enjoy a beach pink party, hosted by American Express at the Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. The female DJs were excellent and the music centred on an incredible, energetic saxophonist.

The tickets included an open buffet and beverages, and there is something immensely pleasurable about enjoying an al fresco meal especially when your bare feet are caressing the sand and you are surrounded by good friends and music, with the water almost lapping your toes.

The majority of party dwellers had incorporated the pink theme, from pink shirts and dresses to hair and nails but unfortunately under the outside lighting everything glowed a soft orange.

It didn’t appear to dampen the evening and as the night progressed more and more people left the comforts of their tables to sway rhythmically to the wonderful beats of the music.

Although, dancing in very soft sand is like running with lead weights on your ankles, extremely taxing on the calf muscles, hard to get your feet into the sand and even harder to get your feet off the sand, turning my soft swaying turned into erratic arm waggles and foot stomping. Luckily, my need of a thirst-quenching drink quickly rescued me from further dancing.

Then, a few days later, we were back on the same beach, minus pink gear and with children in tow, to watch the iconic British Red Arrows, one of the most famous aerobatics display teams in the world.

They did not disappoint, they were magnificent, combining close formations and precision flying whilst leaving vapour trails of red, white and blue across the sky, even shaping the trails into hearts and letters.

They provided a jaw-dropping display of thrills and spills and left me and the entire occupants of the beach all wanting more - just marvelous.
