If you’ve been following this space, then you’ll know of my affinity for methods aimed at improving productivity.
As a student who is enthusiastic about pursuing non-academic endeavours also, I’m always on the lookout for ways to boost the effectiveness with which I study, work and play. With that said, I am not one to turn my nose at so called ‘mindless’ activities.
It feels like sometimes in today’s fast-paced culture, and especially in the age of constant connectivity, doing nothing has earned a sort of a bad rep.
It has been lost that occasionally being engaged in nothing of importance at all can be as good for mind, body and spirit as is staying productive. In fact, I will go on to say that it is the necessary yin to the evil yang of keeping focused at all times.
After all, you do not want to risk burnout, or forget to enjoy the little things in life.
Which is why when I hear of individuals getting rid of the box in lieu of a more ‘brainless’ lifestyle, usually people from the ‘productivity’ community, I am baffled! Whether it is playing video games, watching YouTube videos back-to-back or just lounging in front of the TV, downtime is not to be dismissed. Go on; consider this your official permission to kick back.
